Our review on 'Responsive Cell-Material Interfaces' has appeared in a special focus issue of nanomedicine on Engineering the nanoenvironment for regenerative medicine, guest edited by Matthew Dalby and Manus Biggs. In the review, Hala Dhowre, Sunil Rajput, Noah Russell and Mischa Zelzer describe design characteristics, requirements and recent advances in the preparation of material surfaces that control cell response in a dynamic manner.
